You read this and in the beginning you think, something's not right with the lawyer, the way he calls his client's soon to be ex Steve (instead of Mr. Davis), the request for a Lunch, the smugness he exhibits when hearing that Steve's lawyer couldn't join due to a close family member getting a severe injury. Turns out no it's not the lawyer who's the one to keep an eye on it's the damn bat shit crazy host/(Maitre). Guy (that's the Maitre's name) goes to their table and starts screaming about a d [...]

My second book of the day and my second Stephen King book of the day. This is actually the first Stephen King book I ever read. My dad used to put the audio book on in the car all of the time so was my first introduction to King and therefore, this story has a very special place in my heart. As shown by the 5/5 stars and the fact I've just sat on the sofa for twenty minutes reading it from beginning to end as it's only around 30 pages. From the first time I heard this back when I was about seven, [...]

The waiter was insane!!! Loved how something like this could really happen. Being in a public place, this story just goes to show you, the person waiting in line in front of you at a store could very well be psychotic. You never know

Stephen King manages to be both funny and frightening, as he often is, in this novella about a man's witness of a grisly murder in a New York restaurant during a lunch date with his soon-to-be ex wife and her divorce lawyer, while he (gasp) is experiencing withdrawal from recently giving up smoking. The horror! This novella can be found in King's shorter story collection, Everything's Eventual, and is the inspiration for the book's cover.

    • Dione Basseri says:

A meeting at a cafe to begin divorce proceedings is waylaid by a restaurant worker gone mad, but rather than bringing the couple back together, the event merely serves to show them as they truly are. Plus a bit of a twist at the end, as any horror story deserves. It was okay. Certainly not the best story on "Everything's Eventual," but interesting. I don't think I'd recommend this story to anyone in particular, though, even if they were into horror.

    • Natalie says:

Fairly good story, with a good amount of horror - a little bit predictable, I'll admit, but the grotesque imagery, and the descriptions of the desperate situation, definitely made this a story worth reading.

    • Kelly Jenkins says:

What a bloody good read! The fact that this could happen any time you step into a restaurant makes it all the more scary. Defo one of my favourites in the Everything's Eventual collection.

    • Volodymyr says:

Two immature human beings end up in a very weird situation.

    • Theresa Sivelle says:

      This so could happen.

    • Olivia Richards says:

i was expecting a little more horror but it was alright.

    • Yuriy Mashtalir says:

Definitely not the best book by Stephen King. I liked the atmosphere and the scenery description, but plot is a very weak side.I would never believe it was written by King.

    • Steven Delbove says:

      An absolute blood bath!

    • Yosef Shapiro says:

An average short story by King.

Maybe audio made this one not work for me, but this was my least favorite of the collection.
