(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Entangled Publishing, LLC and NetGalley.)“I am starved for you, Reagan,” he confessed huskily. “I’ve been starved for five goddamn years. And if you were smart, you’d run like hell.”This was an okay story, but it took me a long time to feel anything for the characters.Reagan seemed to have had a rough time of things with her husband, but I disliked the way she covered for him. She didn’t s [...]

3 - "Can I be enough for you for a little while?" Stars.I have read a few books by this author now, and although I always find aspects of them enjoyable, they always seem to fizzle out a little bit, for not offering anything different or overplaying certain tropes. I do not dispute at all that the author can write, and the sexy-times between her couples are always well crafted and imaginative, but something always lets the overall book down. The same can very much be said for Shatter Me, upon rea [...]

This book was an average read that would perhaps be better served as a novella. The problem is the entire plot is laid out in the first chapter leaving nowhere to go. Alex is a former Marine whose best friend dies saving his life during a mission. He feels guilty about the sacrifice but fulfills a promise to check on the wellbeing his friend’s widow, Reagan. Alex and Regan have always tried to deny their attraction to each other. Regan was abused by her dead husband and she’s determined to k [...]

ARC received for reviewBoy where they both hung up over Drew's death but for different reasons. Serious emotional angst all around. The chemistry between them was a low burn. I knew exactly when the feces was going to hit the orbiting oscillator. And it really needed either a better ending or an epilogue.

    • Ivy Deluca says:

The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between-There was a great idea here: Sometimes you’re just in the proper mood for a good old fashioned angst-o-rama and certainly the idea of these two denying their attraction because of loyalty to designed for angst, which can be engrossinghad it followed through on the promise of it all.-It’s a slow burn: Their heat was lit by the sun/magnifying glass, as opposed to gascan/match. Slow burns can be good, but too slow and I’m like a puppy - I get distra [...]

(I received a copy from Netgalley, In exchange for an honest review.)I felt sorry for Reagen in this at points. She had a tough time of it in the past, and the problems she had with the builders was obviously stressful. That being said though, I didn't love her character. Alex wasn't an awful character, but again, I didn't love him. This was an okay read, but I did find myself getting bored at points, and I was quite glad when it was finished.

ARC Kindly provided via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review."3 stars from me. Shatter me is about the love story between a former marine and his best friend’s widow. A story where honor fights with passion, where loyalty gives place to true love. Alex comes back in order to take an eye to his best friend’s widow Reegan and from the very first moment he finds himself difficult to handle with his mixed feelings for her. From the very first time they meet again the attraction between th [...]

Let me start this review by saying I’ve been a fan of Tori St. Claire’s work in the past. I think she can write a sexy an complex story and usually keep me engaged. That being said, SHATTER ME was missing something. Maybe it’s just too simple. Maybe some of the feelings and actions of some characters didn’t really sell it for me. I just expected more from this story. So overall SHATTER ME was a quick and enjoyable read to pass the time. It’s not a story that will probably stay with me, [...]

ARC provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest reviewPartial to a military story, I was keen to jump into this one.Ex Marine, Alex McCray, finds himself back in his hometown to carry out a vow he had made to his dying friend, Drew Sanders. After all, Drew had saved his life, so it was the least he could do. The pledge he had made was to look after Drew’s wife, Reagan, which was going to be a test in itself. There had been an underlying attraction between these two since they fi [...]

Wow, this book pretty much sucker punched me. I tried to be prepared for a heartbreaking story about a widow and her dead husband’s best friend. I knew it was going to be sexy cause it’s a Brazen book and it definitely had scorching moments in spades. And yeah there was some confliction about acting on the chemistry between them because Alex was Reagan’s husband’s best friend. Reagan’s husband died saving Alex, so to say he had a bit of survivor guilt was an understatement. That couple [...]

With a blurb that grabbed, I have to say I was quite looking forward to reading Shatter Me. Best friend's widow isn't a trope I feel has been overplayed and held possibilities of secrets, tormented feelings and a little angst."Alex McCray might be a walking sexual fantasybut he'd never betray Drew's memory by indulging in her."With the perfect marriage to outsiders, Reagan's attitude over the death of her military husband, Drew is somewhat surprising to many, including his best-friend Alex. And [...]

Summary: Reagan had an abusive husband who died while serving in the Marines.Alex's best friend was a Marine that died to save his life. Both Reagan and Alex know the same man but in different ways and made up different parts of Drew's life.Adding on, Reagan and Alex were always attracted to each other, even when Drew was alive, although nothing ever came of it.Drew made Alex promise to look over Reagan.Thoughts:The book was a really slow read: slow to get into, slow to absorb, slow to continue. Alex's girl is sometimes a little to eager and wants to jump the gun, "it’s a little easier to accomplish if you let me take my jeans off, baby doll." Alex likes to tempt his woman wild, "he tipped his pelvis into hers, stroking her once more. “Come shower with me,” he whispered. “I’m aching to put my hands all over you." I liked this book it took strength for Reagan to do what she did and I was proud of her.

    • Bette Hansen says:

Wow! This book was so much more than I was expecting. Wonderfully written with a story that truly blew me away. Reagan is a strong woman and keeping her dead husbands secrets seems like the right thing to do. Alex has always felt the guilt of his attraction to his best friends wife and now that his friend is dead it really hits him hard. But maybe, some things are just meant to beGreat read and I highly recommend it!

Review originally posted at Ramblings From This ChickThis book was good and I really felt for the characters. But while I mostly enjoyed this book, I did feel as though it was just okay. It wasn't overly memorable and it didn't break any new ground. I think that this book actually could have been shorter, and might have been better suited as a novella. It seemed as though pretty much everything big happened early on, with the exception of the big reveal. So while I liked Shatter Me by Tori St. C [...]

First reviewed at Keeper BookshelfSecrets will come out eventually. They are better told to the ones we love, then discovered at the wrong moment. It’s not easy living with the knowledge that your best friend died saving your life. It becomes something you live with, the ghost that’s always in the room – the fact that you just took a breath, and he never will again. Alex will keep the promise he made, he will return home and watch over Reagan – but it won’t be easy, because he has alway [...]

This emotional romance is the story of Alex and Reagan. Alex's best friend Drew died saving his life and when he comes to check on Drew's widow Reagan, he can't help the strong feelings he has for her even though the guilty feelings are equally as strong. But somehow, Reagan's not reacting to Drew's death the way he expected and the town doesn't seem to be offering her the support he would expect for a war widow. As his feelings for Reagan deepen, will he be able to face the truth about his best [...]

Shatter Me is one hell of an emotional read that will capture you from the first page and have you hooked till the last when you finish it with a watery happy smile.Yes it’s a little darker than most Brazen stories, as it deals with domestic abuse and the fall out. The author has dealt with it wonderfully by giving us a strong heroine in Regan. It still has the same sizzle, just a slightly sombre tone.Add the fact that these two characters are meant to have this chance at happiness despite the [...]

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review, and here it is:This novel was so much more than the spicy "solider returns home from the war, falls in love with his best friend's widow" romance I was expecting, that it kept me up until 4:00 a.m after reading it from start to finish. I'll admit to being a sucker for that story line, but Shatter Me had so much more going on than that. The returnee, Alex, watched his best friend die in the war trying to protect him, and, as a [...]

LEEANN'S REVIEW4 STARSThis is a beautiful story about 2nd chances.Things aren't always what they seem and Reagan knows this better than anyone. She was married to a marine who died in the line of fire. He is now the town hero to everyone except his wife. She knows exactly what sort of man he was & he was no hero. He was an abuser. For years Reagan suffered at his hands and now she is free. Alex was Reagans husband's best friend. He idolized him so when he asked Alex to look after Reagan if h [...]

Reagan Sanders and Alex McCray have been hot for one another for years. Alex is feeling like he wants to take a chance with Reagan, only to remind himself that her former husband died saving him. Shatter Me ended up being more than I expected. I didn't expect the depth of emotions that was explored throughout the story. I think the blurb makes it sound a little more steamy than it actually plays out and that is ok by me. Both Reagan and Alex have tentatively been attracted to one another for quite some time. Reagan being married to his best friend and fellow Marine means she is completely off limits. When Reagan's husband dies saving Alex's life, Alex promises to look after Reagan, but w [...]
