4 - "This is what we do." Stars!Kill Without Mercy is the first book in Alexandra Ivy's new ARES Security Series. I have previously only read novella length books by this author, and have to say that after first impressions I had high expectations for this book."It's not easy to live with a secret."So let me introduce you to the ARES guys, all ex-military, all battling their own demons and with their own specific skill sets that make them all an integral part of the team. Rafe, Max, Teagan, Hauk [...]

2.5 stars****Full Review****I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Annie is starting to have visions again, considering these visions have to do with women being murder and her father was the "Newton Slayer", she has reason to be concerned. Going against her foster mother's wishes, she travels back to Newton, the town where her childhood was shattered. Rafe has been putting it off but he eventually d [...]

Kill Without Mercy by Alexandra Ivy is the first book in a new Romantic Suspense series that has definitely made it on to my must read list! I have read Alexandra Ivy’s paranormal romance books and enjoyed them, but this book is that step above that I am always looking for. The series follows five soldiers, who become a band of brothers that survive and escape a Taliban hellhole. They come home and form their own high tech security company, ARES Security. Rafe Vargas, a covert ops specialist, [...]

I recently had the pleasure of reading a short story by this author in All He Wants For Christmas which introduced the guys of Ares security so when I spotted this book I just couldn't resist it. Ok I will admit there are several series out there that feature military types running their own security business but the addition of a heroine who is the daughter of a serial killer took my breath away. That's sufficiently different to catch my attention but when you add in the fact that Annie is conn [...]

Kill without mercy is a good book with the right amount of suspense and romance. After reading a particularly emotionally draining book I was glad to read this book as it was light, fun to read and had a really good plot.Rafe Varga covert ops specialist, Max Grayson trained forensics, Hauk Laurensen a sniper weapons expert and Teegan Moore a computer wizardIt should have broken them. Even the most hardened soldiers could shatter beneath the acute psychological and physical punishment. Instead th [...]

The writing is good and the plot had loads of potential, but in the end, I didn't really enjoy the book that much. I was constantly pulled out the novel frustrated by my reactions to the story. For the most part the suspense plot got put on the back burner so that we can have way to many he's so hot/she's so hot moments. The H/h barely know each other a day and she's moved into the guestroom in his grandfather's house. She's tingling all the time because he's so good looking. One minute he think [...]

As a fan of Alexandra Ivy’s paranormal books, I was excited that she is starting a new series with a slight paranormal flare. Annie had a terrifying physic ability, as a child she saw murders as they were happening. Her father was arrested for these murders and killed in prison before he ever went to trial. Years later, Annie is an adult and the dreams have returned. She is again plagued with the dreams of murders. Annie decides to return to her hometown. She needs to find out if these are jus [...]

Kill Without Mercy by Alexandra Ivy is a 2015 Kensington publication. I as provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Count me in. This is my kind of romantic suspense. Terrifying, pulse pounding suspense, with red hot romance and a hero that will have you eating out of the palm of his hand. Alexandra Ivy is mostly known for her kick butt urban fantasy series. So, I was more than a little curious when I saw she was beginning a new romantic suspe [...]

I've never read an Alexandra Ivy book that I didn't love and Kill Without Mercy was no exception. I knew the woman could write, there's no doubt about that, and while I love her PNR, I'm so glad she decided to venture into romantic suspense Seriously, she killed it! And I cannot wait for the rest of the books in this series! After leaving the military, Rafe and his buddies stayed in touch and have been working on setting up their own security business. While he is there he meets Annie, instincts tell him that she is in trouble and he is determined to help her. Together, and with the help of Rafe's friends, they unravel the truth of what had happened fifteen years ago.I did like the story, the mystery was good, though the ending felt a little rushed. This wasn't a bad read by any means; it was actually well written. Unfortunately, there was absolutely nothing new here, nothing I hadn't read a dozen times before. The RS serial killer trope and the little heroine is in the killers sights. For a while there, I thought I was reading a remarkabley similar book written by Cynthia Eden. The last part of the book verged on the truly ridiculous; though there was an interesting twist at the end. Bottom line; it was enjoyable enough if nothing that sto [...]

3.5Overall I really liked the story. Rafe was a passionate and compassionate hero. Annie was a sweet, shy yet strongwilled heroine. If I could give half stars this would be a 3.5. The only thing that kept me from giving a solid 4 stars was the repetitive use of words. "Demanded" was pretty much on every page. The story would profit from a little editing in this regard.I will definitely read the next installment of this series. I love the brotherhood of these five men and the way they treat a wom [...]

So, I knew who the killer was before the character was even mentioned or introduced. There are just too many stories with this plot to not recognize it immediately. That was a bit of a bummer, as the mystery was ruined pretty quickly. But the suspense was still there, and of course the romance. :) Not to say there was no mystery, there are at least three mysteries in this book that need solving. But one of them was blatantly obvious.Rafe was a character I have zero complaints about. Typical alph [...]

I pondered long and hard how to put my thoughts about this story into words. I've never read Alexandra Ivy's works before and the blurb was the one attracted me to read this book. As such, I must have had an expectation of what I'd find within the pages; one that soon dashed. It's not that the whole book was a let down. Individually, the aspects work fine and I quite like Ms. Ivy's writing; as an ensemble though it's not a smooth sailing for me.Kill Without Mercy is the start of a new series "AR [...]

Kill Without Mercy is the first of a new series by Alexandra Ivy. It centers around a start-up security company called ARES Security. The partners are five former special ops guys who shared a horrid ordeal – being held in a Taliban prison. They forged an unbreakable bond that continued after they escaped and left the military.I’m not sure why I don’t read more romantic suspense since it’s a genre I really enjoy. Especially when it’s a book full of hot, alpha, ex-military guys who are [...]

ARC received for reviewGreat start to a series. Five hot ex-military friends starting their own security business. Rafe is the first to fall for a girl. Of course the girl is being "stalked" and Rafe and his friends come in to save the day. Whole lot of yumminess hanging around. Rafe and Annie are so sweet together. Rafe readily steps up to save the day and the girl. His friends immediately step in to help and protect. Annie is strong and easy to like. I can't wait to read the rest of the partne [...]

Things that were good: The murder subplot: It was actually pretty well executed! A bit clichéd, and some of the leaps in logic were super arbitrary and kind of stupid. But it really was actually pretty good. There are much, much worse mystery novels out there. The serial killer: He was delightfully creepy. But, I don’t like how sympathetic the book seemed towards his character. I mean, it’s nothing new as far as serial killers go, but it was well done.Things that weren’t so good:Dialogue t [...]

I’ve enjoyed the Bayou Heat series and have always wanted to read more books by Alexandra Ivy based on her contributions to the series, but never found the time. So when I saw that she was starting up a new series there was no way I could pass it up but while I liked the book I didn’t love it. Much of it has to do with the fact that while I thought the mystery/suspense side was done well, the romance side of things just fell flat for me.I liked Annie.
