A fine story with roots in From Here to Eternity and a refreshing change of scene from Vietnam to Korea. I zipped right through it. An interesting note: The main character has the same name as the author. The book is clearly taken from the author's life but with a cleverly woven plot superimposed.

The first pages impressed me. Cezar writes intelligently with a good “voice.” I breezed through several chapters—a real quick read. And I liked the book. The author skillfully brought back old memories. Although not at the same time, we had walked the same streets, listened to the same sounds, and smelled the same smells. Cezar shows a good memory to so accurately portray a soldier’s life away from home almost fifty years ago.He chose well to embellish his story and he did it nicely, pre [...]

A Real Page-Turner!If you were an American male in 1965 and received your draft notice, there was no doubt where you were headed. However, not everyone was sent to Vietnam after completing one’s military training. One might be lucky to draw an assignment to Europe or South Korea.Of course, for those fortunate to find themselves in South Korea, the assignment could be just as dangerous as Vietnam. In An American MP in Korea, the author Richard Cezar, who served in Korea during the 1960s, deliver [...]

When I downloaded this novel, I hoped to become better informed about life in the military and the culture of Korea. I was not disappointed. Richard Cezar presents his positive and negative experiences with both. His style held my attention, as if he was telling me about his life over a beer in the comfort of my living room in simple but precise and descriptive terms. My attention never faltered.Although the book reads like a novel, it is clear that the author is the main character. For that rea [...]

I have always been interested in reading about U.S. Military History, but for some reason, my interest did not apply to the situation in Korea. I suppose I felt the conflict was relatively minor and much less compelling when compared to the American Civil War and World War II. To be honest, the main reason I picked up this book was because of the cover which I found to be intriguing and mysterious. I am glad that I did because I found it an absorbing read from the start.Cezar does an excellent j [...]

This was an enjoyable read that kept the twists and turns coming while sharing a little-known part of American History from South Korea. I couldn’t help bursting out laughing at a couple of parts where it sounded similar to some stories my dad told me about his time in the army during that same period. That helped to bring the story a little closer on a personal level. One of the things I really enjoyed was how the author shared the routine day-to-day activities in a manner that made you want t [...]

Richard Cezar has published a very well written account of what it was like for young U.S. men being drafted into the Vietnam War during the 1960's. Cezar blends historical fiction with a real life feel that propels the story forward in this timeless coming of age classic. For the armchair traveler that has never ventured to Korea, Cezar whisks you away to a tropical rainforest via man against nature in the midst of the monsoon season, as if soldiers over there didn't have enough to deal with, h [...]

Loved this book!An American MP in Korea tells of Richard Cezar’s time as an MP in South Korea in the early 1960s. This book really surprised me. I’m not generally into things associated with the military. Also, I often find non-fiction stilted, and frankly, dull. However, Richard Cezar has managed to relate events and his reaction to them in a way that kept me reading well into the night. It’s not just an account of military life, his fellow MPs and their trials, tribulations and foibles. [...]

An MP's life in Korean takes place in the mid-1960s, and is told by the soldier himself, Richard Cezar. He takes us behind the scenes to experience first hand how politics and bigotry can control the greatest Army in the world! The murder of a friend, horrific events, and love have Cezar returning to Korea after he leaves the Army. What he discovers caught me completely by surprise. Mind-Blowing!Cezar does an excellent job of making you feel you are part of the action, as well as the lifestyle of [...]

Korea is a war I find is rarely mentioned so when I came accross this book I was intrigued. I found this book to be both informative and enjoyable. The author presents an account of life as a conscripted man sent to a foreign land to fight a war he knew little about in a very readable fashion. He entwines romance with hard military life with ease into a novel which has pace, sensitivity, intrigue and believability. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would definitely recommend it to anyon [...]

I enjoyed this book, got a real feel for the Korea at that time, always with the threat of Vietnam in the background. Richard writes well.

As the title suggests, 'An American MP in Korea' is about the experiences of a young MP stationed in South Korea at the time the Vietnam War was escalating. Richard Cezar not only gives us a nice slice of history woven into the details of his character's daily life as an MP, he tackles issues such as government policy and racism. This is a book about the strong brotherhood that's forged by war, personal conflicts and changes, and a young man who, despite all the obstacles thrown his way, defende [...]
