A Note from Acey to Tugger:Hey Tugger, how ya doin’? Dusty’s family moved. Ah, well—more mice for me. I hear you don’t get out much. Yeah, Rochelle tries to keep me in when the weather’s bad, but I’ve got my safe spots out back at the auto museum. I tried everything the other night--even the eyes, but it was raining and she would not budge. Good thing, too. Had a BIG lightning bolt. I jumped up in her lap and she cuddled me. I think it scared her, too. There was a high-pitched wail e [...]

This is the 2nd book in the Alvarez Family mysteries. I think Heather improved upon an already good series. The plot intricate, yet logically solvable. Lea Alvarez's voice in this book is funnier and more adept than the first one, which I also liked. The books just keep getting better, so I'll have no problem snagging the next one when it comes along.Heather writes a damned good mystery with a distinctive flair. One minor point and it's mostly me and my short attention span lately. I had trouble [...]

This is the second book in a series which; luckily for me, doesn't require you to read in order. Lee is a PI working for her family's Detective Agency in Palo Alto CA. She's stuck on a terrible case requiring her to dress like a Walmart shopping, single mother, and ride public transport for 3 hours a day as well as helping to plan a massive wedding for her best friend. So when the groom to be; who is also a dear family friend, is arrested for murder she knows her 16 hour days are going to become [...]

This book would have earned 3.5-4 stars for being rather good for the genre, if only it hadn't relied on a serious flaw for the solution. The main character is led to her suspicions by something she only saw AFTER the murder. And if that something were relevant, it would have been in police storage as evidence when she saw it. Something much less significant bothered me as well. The book could also use a bit more or better copy editing. But it is rare for me not to make that complaint. If it were [...]

Wedding NightmareA short planning time for a wedding because the much-in-demand church became available gets complicated. The bride-to-be has pneumonia, a "worthless" artifact is stollen and the thief is found dead after an anonymous call to 911 says the groom-to-be is bending over the body and his prints are on the knife when the police find the body. Thus starts another Alvarez family adventure. Liana must use her P.I. skills to save a family friend and the wedding she has had to plan for the b [...]

Heather Haven writes a great story. Her characters are like part of my family or good friends. They feel like I know them. They feel so real like good friends who I want to learn more about. This is my 3rd Heather Haven novel. I have enjoyed all of them. I was given this book by the author but would have read it even if it hadn't been given to me. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this Series.

Sex in the City meets The Rockford Files. While trying to clear a friend from a murder charge, private detective Lee Alvarez stumbles across a smuggling ring and the man of her dreams. Lee gets an “A” for attitude and fashion sense, and an A+ for sleuthing.A humorous mystery with a chick lit flare.

I really rate it three-and-a-half, but doesn't seem to like half stars ;) An engaging mystery - think something along the lines of the Stephanie Plum books, with a wacky cast of family members providing help and hindrance to Lee Alvarez as she tries to solve a mystery involving ancient artefacts and fight off the attentions of a handsome hunk who may or may not be on her side

    • Suzanne Montigny says:

Heather Haven is hilarious! I laughed out loud several times while reading this book. Her writing is witty, to the point, and she doesn't belabour. It took me a while to read this, but only because my boys kept interrupting me. I wished I could have sat down and read the whole thing in a couple of days.

    • Lillie says:

Lee Alvarez works in the family PI business. Several interwoven subplots kept the story moving and reader interest high as Lee and her quirky family solve murders and thefts of archaeological treasures to save a friend from a murder charge in time to meet his bride at the altar.

    • Christine says:

Although the mystery killer wasn't too tough to figure out, this author writes a very good "cozy" mystery. The main character, Lee, is likable and believable. The only disappointment was the action in the denouement by a secondary character.

    • Vicki says:

Fast paced mystery Lee and her family run an investigation firm. As Lee plans a wedding for her friend the groom to be is arrested for murdering the thief that broke into their home the night before. It is a very fast paced story that is very fulfilling. I enjoyed the book.

Book two in the series - and another winner! I really like our heroine, and her family. The story is strong and worth reading.

    • Linda Cole says:
