In her novel, author Lauren Marrero pulls together a historical romance full of suspense, treachery, and lust. Verena, an English spy, is tasked with seducing a Scottish laird in order to steal his lost family treasure so his counterpart, the English Lord Gundy, can take control of the land and people. Overall, I felt the novel was a good read. The story was interesting and it held my attention throughout the end. I connected with Verena, sympathizing with her choice to either complete her missi [...]

Seducing the LairdBy Laurene MarreroAn Enchanting Quick Read4 starsThis Scottish novel is set in 1502 on the border lands of England and Scotland. Carin McPherson, a young man who recently became Laird of the McPherson Clan after his father died, had just returned home after growing up in France with his step-brother Andreau after his mother died when he was a child. The English were at war with Scotland after the Scottish King’s defeat. The lands of the McPherson clan and that of the English [...]

Got this free on and I know the author wants an honest review. It took awhile for me to finish reading this. Not that it is no good. This one is more of historical romantic suspense. The conflict was presented to the reader Friday from the beginning. Verena grew up in a family of spies, but this family is without blood relations, and she's assigned to murder a Scottish laird after retrieving the treasure of his clan. Feelings of lust and love developed between the two and there were a lot of co [...]

Nanee's Review:I am a sucker for historical romances with Lord's, knights, treachery and romance. This story didn't disappoint, sexy as hell Cairn McPherson stole the show with his good looks, protective instincts and honor. He takes care of his clan whether he wanted the job to lead or not, he is brave and a hero (swoon). Verena is a beautiful, fisty, smart as a whip women who just wants a home and family, although she won't admit that to anyone, she's a master with a knife too . What a perfect [...]

The hokey title and cover pretty much put me off, so I am glad I took a few moments to read they synopsis to see that the heroine was seducing the Laird as her part in a spy plot instead of just another cheesy Highland romance. This book actually contained some well developed characters and an intriguingly serpentine suspense plot. Not the same old/same old.
